Guess I'll just have to use snes9x for SNES emulation instead. bsnes and Mesen-S now feature a new way of overclocking that comes from the NES emulation scene: inserting additional scanlines into the CPU thread, without running. Ok, I was just hoping that the performance difference between snes9x and other SNES emulators would be small enough to fit for my hardware. Existing SNES emulators sometimes allowed overclocking the SNES CPU by a fixed amount, but it was done in a way that would either increase the video and audio rate, or break games. Your Intel Adom is most likely not powerful enough. Mednafen uses bsnes (modern day Higan) as its SNES core which needs significantly more CPU power then Snes9x. Here are my current snes relevant settings from the config (without input assignments): I also tried with a different emulator (snes9x) and there are no performance problems there, at least none that would noticably affect the gameplay or sound.īut since I prefer to have an all-in-one system/program I was hoping to get some tipps from the forum for a better performance. Now I'm aware that I have quite a weak hardware (Intel Atom N450, 1GB Ram) so I shouldn't expect too much (OS is 64bit Arch Linux).īut on the other hand GBA emulation runs fairly well with x3 scale and autoipsharper shader (60 fps in window and 60,34,34 fps fullscreen) which is quite weird since vbam doesn't run as well (and afaik mednafen's gba emulation is based on it?)

Its only borderline playable, the game runs rather slow (F-Zero approx runs at 40,16,16 fps, same order as it appears on the display) and the sound glitches out and is not played correctly (I assume the latter is a result of the former). Hi, for some reason the SNES emulation of mednafen is not as fast as I hoped for my netbook. A mixture of both approaches – well-considered emulation, and generous remasterings – serve the gamers, and the games, best.Home » Mednafen » General » Emulation slow? Show: Today's Messages :: Show Polls :: Message Navigator While noting that 'It is possible for a welloptimized, speed-oriented SNES emulator to run. And, as in evidence by the recent Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - Definitive Edition, it can backfire, introducing new issues and losing the spirit of the original. The objective of bsnes, unlike other SNES emulators, is accuracy. But it does not restore access to the title as it originally existed.

Emulation is a technical art form, and just because a new machine is more powerful than the older one doesn’t necessarily mean that making it work will be a piece of cake. It may be 25 years old, but the Super Nintendo still boasts some of the best video games of all time. However, investing in emulation can be costly and difficult – you only need to look at the poor performance of the Nintendo Switch’s N64 titles for evidence of that. Publishers are losing money by potentially being able to serve them to gamers themselves. At present, hard-to-find older games are often only playable through legally-gray emulation. It’s an interesting position for game publishers to be in.

Wider industry support could find a way of opening up older games, legally, to whole new audiences, giving greater access to the history of the medium. While tinkering with and building emulators themselves is legal, running copyrighted material such as games through them is legally complex and usually straight-up illegal unless under specific circumstances.
